Evonith Steel, in collaboration with Nithia Capital, has successfully recommissioned Blast Furnace No. 1 (BF1) at Evonith Metallics Ltd. (EML) in Wardha, Maharashtra. The 450 m³ furnace has a production capacity of 550,000 metric tonnes of hot metal annually (0.5 mtpa).

With the addition of BF1 to the existing Blast Furnace No. 2 (BF2), which has a capacity of over 700,000 MT per year, the total hot metal production capacity at Evonith Steel now reaches 1.3 million MT. The hot metal produced will primarily be used for steel production at Evonith Value Steel Ltd. (EVSL) and supplied as pig iron to other downstream steel manufacturers.

Since Nithia’s acquisition of Evonith Steel in December 2020, significant investments have been made in the facility to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. Key upgrades include the installation of BF2, improvements to the raw material handling system, increased sinter plant capacity to over 1.5 million MT, and the implementation of dust emission collection systems in both the ironmaking and steelmaking areas.

Jai Saraf, Chairman of Evonith Steel, expressed pride in the successful project completion, stating it is a key step toward achieving the company’s vision of making Evonith Steel City a fully integrated primary steel producer with a 2.5 million MT per annum capacity.

Chief Operating Officer AV Ratnaprasad emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility, noting that the expansion was carried out with advanced pollution control systems and energy-efficient technologies to minimize environmental impact and promote cleaner production practices.

Nithia Capital, founded in 2010, is a global investment and advisory firm specializing in transforming underperforming heavy asset-backed industries, particularly in steel, power, and resources. The firm focuses on making operational improvements while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Evonith Metallics and Evonith Value Steel form a steel complex at Evonith Steel City, which has a combined capacity of up to 1.0 million MT of crude steel per year. Strategically located near Nagpur, the facility is well-connected to key markets and raw material sources. EML produces hot metal/pig iron for EVSL, which then manufactures value-added flat steel products, including hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, and galvanized sheets.
