Eveready Industries India Ltd, the country’s leading name in flashlights and batteries, has announced that its Lucknow-based manufacturing unit, The Eveready Flashlight Company (TEFCO), has been awarded the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. Recognised as one of India’s oldest and largest torch manufacturing units, the TEFCO facility received this prestigious certification in acknowledgment of its strong manufacturing standards and consistent commitment to quality.
In an environment where numerous unorganised players have entered the flashlight market—often selling uncertified products through informal channels—this BIS recognition marks a critical step forward for the industry. Many of these products bypass essential requirements such as proper MRP labeling and fail to adhere to safety and performance norms, which can mislead consumers. The BIS certification sets a benchmark for quality, ensuring that only thoroughly tested and standard-compliant flashlights reach the hands of buyers, thereby fostering greater consumer trust and encouraging a fair and transparent market.
Commenting on this achievement, Anirban Banerjee, CEO of Eveready Industries India Ltd, stated, “This certification reinforces our role as a trusted brand and our continued commitment to excellence in product quality.”
Echoing this sentiment, Arun Kumar Sahay, Senior Vice President & Head – Operations, added, “Earning the BIS certification is a proud moment that reflects our efforts to meet the highest standards in every product we deliver.”
With the certification now in place, Eveready’s range of flashlights and lanterns produced at the TEFCO facility will carry the official ISI mark and Central Mark License (CML) number. The facility, which also includes a NABL-accredited testing lab, manufactures LED torches, rechargeable lights, and other lighting products, and has been a key part of Eveready’s journey since its establishment in 1958.
With a legacy spanning over a century, Eveready Industries India Ltd is a trusted name in the Indian market for batteries and flashlights, with a growing footprint in the lighting segment. The Eveready brand made its debut in India in 1905, and the company was formally established in 1934, swiftly becoming a market leader in the dry cell battery segment.
Known for its commitment to enhancing everyday life through portable energy and lighting solutions, Eveready holds over 50% share of the Indian battery market. Its iconic “Give Me Red” campaign, launched 25 years ago, became a cultural milestone and remains one of India’s most memorable advertising slogans.
The company operates six manufacturing units located in Matia, Lucknow, Noida, Haridwar, Maddur, and Kolkata, all equipped with world-class technology and adhering to international standards for quality (ISO 9000), environmental management (ISO 14000), and technological advancement. Eveready also houses a dedicated R&D facility recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, underscoring its focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
