Ester Industries Limited (EIL), a premier producer of Polyester Films and Specialty Polymers in India, along with Loop Industries, is embarking on a groundbreaking project to manufacture a distinctive product with a reduced carbon footprint. This initiative involves the production of recycled dimethyl terephthalate (rDMT) and recycled mono-ethylene glycol (rMEG) using Loop Industries’ innovative Infinite Loop technology.

The total investment for this venture is estimated at US $165 million (Rs. 1,385 crore). The construction of this advanced facility is slated for completion by the end of 2026, with commercial production expected to commence in early 2027. The Infinite Loop India Joint Venture (JV) facility is designed to produce 70,000 tonnes of rDMT and 23,000 tonnes of rMEG annually. A portion of this output will be converted by Ester into various grades of specialty polymers.

This new facility is anticipated to achieve a significant reduction in carbon emissions, cutting them by up to 70% compared to traditional dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) derived from fossil fuels. It aims to offer a circular and sustainable alternative to chemical companies, assisting them in meeting their environmental sustainability goals.

The joint venture leverages Loop Industries’ state-of-the-art technology and its connections with global brands, combined with EIL’s four decades of expertise in polymers and its operational excellence. Arvind Singhania, Chairman of EIL, expressed enthusiasm about the progress of the JV with Loop Industries Inc.

Singhania stated, “Our joint venture with Loop Industries is advancing according to schedule. We are diligently working on various aspects of the project’s implementation. Given our strong performance in both business segments, we are optimistic about delivering value to our shareholders. This partnership represents a transformative step that is expected to drive profitable growth for our company in the years ahead.”

Established in 1985, EIL operates advanced manufacturing plants in Khatima and Sitarganj in Uttarakhand, with a production capacity of 67,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of Polyester Resin, 60,000 TPA of Polyester Film, and 30,000 TPA of Specialty Polymers. Additionally, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Ester Filmtech Limited, EIL has set up a cutting-edge manufacturing unit in Hyderabad, Telangana, dedicated to producing 48,000 tonnes of Polyester Film.

Ester Industries Limited, a leading Indian manufacturer, specializes in Polyester Films and Specialty Polymers. Partnering with Loop Industries, known for its advanced recycling technology, they are launching a new facility in India to produce recycled dimethyl terephthalate (rDMT) and mono-ethylene glycol (rMEG). This joint venture aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions and support sustainability in the chemical industry.
