Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) is expanding its manufacturing operations in India, strengthening the country’s role as a critical innovation and production center within its global operations. The expansion supports the development of advanced mobile networks and accelerates the delivery of next-generation connectivity solutions.
By mid-2025, all passive antennas for the Indian market will be produced locally. This shift is designed to shorten lead times, enhance collaboration with Indian partners, and adapt more efficiently to market demands—all while aligning with India’s ambitions for a digitally empowered future. The initiative is a major step toward supporting India’s nationwide 5G rollout and increasing responsiveness to regional and international market shifts.
The manufacturing expansion is being carried out in partnership with VVDN Technologies, a long-standing technology collaborator. India now joins the company’s international manufacturing ecosystem, alongside existing sites in Mexico, Romania, and China—strengthening supply chain diversity and resilience.
“Antennas play a vital role in enabling better network performance and innovation,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of EAS. “Expanding our production footprint in India allows us to deliver advanced solutions faster and closer to where next-gen networks are being built.”
The majority of antennas produced locally will also be exported, positioning India as a strategic contributor to the company’s global distribution and supply efforts. By aligning product development with local and regional needs, EAS aims to speed up deployment and deepen its involvement with India’s growing technology landscape.
Ericsson’s roots in India date back to 1903. It was the first telecom manufacturer in the country in 1994, playing a key role in the evolution of India’s mobile ecosystem.
As a prominent player in 5G technology, the company has been working alongside Indian telecom providers to launch robust networks. Since 2015, it has been delivering its Radio System to prepare infrastructure for 5G and was involved in showcasing India’s earliest 5G demonstrations—including a live, 5G-enabled concert experience.
The expanded local production will be managed entirely by Ericsson’s team, supported by a network of trusted suppliers to ensure high quality and operational agility.
“This marks another milestone in our long-standing relationship with India,” said Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India. “By strengthening local manufacturing and building a more agile ecosystem, we can ensure faster rollouts and minimize potential disruptions.”
With India now producing and designing antennas for both domestic and international markets, EAS is helping build a stronger, more responsive global infrastructure. These advanced antennas support the rollout of high-speed, high-capacity networks needed to handle the growing demand for data and digital services.
For nearly 150 years, the company has been developing communication technologies. Today, it continues to offer mobile solutions that connect billions of people around the world, serving both service providers and enterprises.
