Eraaya Lifespaces today announced that its Indian subsidiary, Ebix Technologies Limited (formerly EbixCash Limited), has secured a ₹140 crore contract from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) for the implementation of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) across the state. This will be India’s first statewide deployment of the NCMC system for concessional travel, aimed at unifying public transport payments under the Government of India’s ‘One Nation, One Card’ framework.

This development marks a major milestone in Maharashtra’s public transit evolution. Ebix Technologies had previously partnered with MSRTC in November 2022 to supply over 38,000 Android-based electronic ticketing machines (ETMs), which have since processed more than 220 crore tickets across MSRTC’s fleet of 16,000+ buses. The introduction of NCMC expands this digital transformation by enabling passengers to use a single smartcard for all bus journeys, ensuring a seamless and interoperable commuting experience.

Key aspects of the NCMC program include mandatory adoption for all concessional category passengers and optional use for general passengers. Ebix Technologies will be responsible for distributing over 2 crore cards across Maharashtra through a retail network of 3,000 outlets. The project also features convenient recharge options via physical locations, web portals, and mobile apps. Advanced Aadhaar and Saral-based APIs will ensure accurate authentication for over 50 subsidized passenger groups, enhancing subsidy targeting and reducing misuse.

Commenting on the development, an Ebix Technologies spokesperson said, “This partnership aligns with our goal of delivering large-scale digital transformation in public transport. The NCMC rollout is more than just a payment system — it’s a shift towards smarter, safer, and more transparent mobility.”

With projected annual transaction volumes exceeding ₹2,000 crore, the program is expected to significantly boost digital payments and improve service efficiency. Guided by new ownership under Eraaya Lifespaces, the company is focused on expanding its footprint through innovation and strategic growth in the public transit and digital payments sectors.
