Equinix Collaborates with CleanMax to Develop 33 MW Renewable Energy Projects for Data Centers in India

Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a leading global digital infrastructure company, has signed its first power purchase agreement (PPA) in India with CleanMax, a prominent renewable energy provider in the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sector supported by Brookfield. The partnership will see the development of a 33 MW Captive Power Plant in Maharashtra to supply renewable energy for Equinix’s growing data center operations in Mumbai.

The project, combining 26.4 MWp of solar capacity and 6.6 MW of wind capacity, is expected to begin phased operations in 2025. Once fully functional, it will supply renewable energy to Equinix’s International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers in Mumbai, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability and addressing increasing energy demands fueled by AI growth.

This project is part of Equinix’s broader renewable energy strategy, which includes 23 PPAs globally, expected to contribute over 3.1 million MWh of renewable energy annually across key markets such as the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The company also invests heavily in energy efficiency, spending $77.5 million in 2023 to reduce energy consumption by 66,862 MWh and improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 8.8%.
