Epsilon Carbon Pvt Ltd has recently formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Odisha, outlining the investment of Rs 10,000 crore over the next decade, to contribute to the future of carbon manufacturing. This collaboration is a pivotal moment for the Indian carbon industry as Epsilon Carbon establishes an Integrated Carbon Complex (ICC) in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
Established in 2010, Epsilon Carbon Private Limited (ECPL) envisions becoming one of the preferred and trusted partner in the carbon derivatives market. With headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and manufacturing units strategically located in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, ECPL has attained full operational integration, ensuring robust supply of raw materials. As one of the global leaders in the carbon black (CB) and coal tar (CT) derivatives industry, Epsilon Carbon aspires to set industry standards and establish a prominent presence on the world stage.

The Integrated Carbon Complex (ICC), with an impressive annual production capacity of 8,75,000 metric tons, is set to become a central hub for the manufacturing of three essential carbon products. With a Specialty Carbon Capacity of 500,000 metric tons per annum, a Carbon Black Capacity of 300,000 metric tons per annum, and an Advanced Materials Capacity of 75,000 metric tons per annum, this state-of-the-art facility signifies a significant leap forward in the production capabilities of Epsilon Carbon Pvt Ltd.
Going beyond industry advancements, this project is poised to create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a substantial boost to the region’s economy. Epsilon Carbon is focused on fostering holistic prosperity by engaging with local communities and implementing programs in critical areas such as education, talent development, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The strategic choice of Jharsuguda as the project location is underlined by its thriving industrial ecosystem, a pool of qualified labor, well-developed infrastructure, and favorable industry policies. The region’s reputation as India’s aluminum hub, particularly for the utilization of coal tar pitch, adds strategic value to the project. The proximity to major steel mills ensures a stable supply of raw materials, while well-connected ports like Paradip facilitate seamless exports.

He highlighted the alignment between the environmentally conscious policies of the State Government of Odisha and the sustainable business approach of Epsilon Carbon. The establishment of this venture not only reinforces the company’s position in the carbon industry but also signifies a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainable development.
Epsilon Carbon’s primary objective extends beyond industry excellence to serve as a beacon of innovation in the carbon manufacturing sector. The company seeks to set a precedent for sustainable business practices while contributing substantially to the economic development and industrial progress of Jharsuguda and its surrounding regions.
The choice of Jharsuguda as the project site is underpinned by its strategic advantages, including a thriving industrial ecosystem, access to qualified labor, well-established infrastructure, and favorable industry policies. The region’s significance as India’s aluminum hub, particularly for coal tar pitch utilization, enhances the strategic importance of the project.
