EOLO, Italy’s leading Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) provider, has chosen Thales to support its expansion of high-speed internet services in the country. This collaboration aligns with the European Union’s goal to provide every citizen with 1Gbps broadband access by 2030. As part of this effort, EOLO will leverage Thales’ advanced connectivity solutions to deliver high-speed internet to underserved areas, including small towns and rural regions, through innovative FWA technology.
EOLO has been at the forefront of providing affordable, high-speed internet using radio technology. Currently, the company serves over 700,000 households, with FWA speeds reaching up to 300 Mbps. To further enhance its service and extend coverage to more areas in Italy, EOLO will introduce a 1Gbps FWA service in 2025. This new service will combine 5G and millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology and will involve a large-scale deployment of 5G antennas and eSIM-enabled devices for easier installation at customer locations.
Thales will contribute to this expansion with its eSIM Management platform, the Thales On-Demand Subscription Manager (OSM). This technology enables EOLO’s 5G routers to be pre-configured with mobile subscriptions, making installation quicker and more efficient. As soon as customers power on their devices, they will experience immediate activation, ensuring seamless connectivity.
Guido Garrone, CEO of EOLO, remarked, “Together, we are building infrastructure that will complement fiber coverage in Italy. With the ability to reach 1Gbps, this initiative will help us meet European and Italian digital goals, bridging the digital divide and increasing speed for both citizens and businesses.”
Eva Rudin, VP of Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, added, “Reliable and secure connectivity is critical for digital transformation. By supporting EOLO with our advanced eSIM technology, we are accelerating broadband deployment and helping close the digital divide across Europe.”
