Emitech’s New Vehicle Test Center Equipped with Rohde & Schwarz’s Advanced EMC Test System

Emitech's cutting-edge vehicle test center in France is now equipped with a comprehensive EMC test system from Rohde & Schwarz, ensuring the electromagnetic compatibility of vehicles.

Emitech, a leading provider of applied testing services for automotive product qualification, has unveiled its state-of-the-art vehicle test center in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. As a crucial component of the center, an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) chamber has been outfitted with a comprehensive EMC test system supplied by Rohde & Schwarz. The system includes a range of cutting-edge equipment such as R&S BBA150, R&S BBA130, and R&S BBL200 broadband amplifiers, R&S ESW44 test receivers, as well as R&S SMB100B RF signal generators and power meters. In addition to this, Rohde & Schwarz demonstrated its innovative solution for advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) testing during the center’s inauguration ceremony held in March.

Emitech’s newly established test center focuses on conducting electromagnetic compatibility tests for a wide range of vehicles, including two and three-wheelers, cars, trucks, tractors, and construction machinery. The facility boasts a reinforced heavy load area capable of accommodating equipment weighing up to 40 tons, making it suitable for testing high-tonnage and high-volume machinery prevalent in sectors such as defense, aeronautics, railways, nuclear power, and other industrial domains. Notably, the center features the largest and most advanced Faraday cage in France, which plays a vital role in performing electromagnetic compatibility tests. These tests ensure that the equipment being evaluated does not generate interference and remains unaffected by representative interference encountered in real-world usage scenarios.

The EMC tests at Emitech’s test center are supported by the powerful R&S BBA and R&S BBL amplifiers. These amplifiers are housed in multiple system racks and supply high-power RF signals to all transducers employed in the conducted and radiated EMC test setups. Specifically, two racks containing R&S BBL200 amplifiers and a 3 kW power class R&S BBA150 amplifier have been installed below the chamber to generate a high field strength across the frequency range of 9 kHz to 1 GHz. Utilizing a combination of a stripline antenna and two log-periodic antennas, these amplifiers facilitate accurate testing. Furthermore, a mobile rack housing 600 W/300 W power class R&S BBA130 amplifiers, along with a horn antenna, enables high field strength tests up to 6 GHz within the chamber.

The R&S BBA amplifiers offer coverage for frequency bands up to 6 GHz, catering to various applications, including compliance with different standards for electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) measurements. Complementing the setup, the R&S BBL200 liquid-cooled power amplifiers provide high field strengths and are ideal for applications requiring substantial RF power within the frequency range of 9 kHz to 250 MHz. These amplifiers, known for their robustness, efficiency, and quiet operation, are designed for continuous use and ensure constant power output even in mismatch conditions. Stringent monitoring of runtime parameters guarantees maximum reliability and performance.

The collaboration between Rohde & Schwarz and Emitech in delivering this exceptional EMC test solution to the French automotive market sets a new industry standard, further solidifying the companies’ commitment to ensuring the electromagnetic compatibility of vehicles.

As the automotive sector continues to witness advancements in technology, Emitech and Rohde & Schwarz remain at the forefront of supporting innovation by providing cutting-edge testing capabilities that ensure the safe and reliable operation of vehicles in an increasingly interconnected world.
