Emerson Offers Free Marine Automation Configuration Template

Emerson now provides a free template for marine applications using its Movicon.NExTTM HMI/SCADA system and PACSystemsTM edge controllers, industrial panel PCs, and other products. This template aims to help designers and shipbuilders create a modern and unified shipboard monitoring and control system.

Ships and superyachts have complex automation needs, similar to factories or small cities. They require monitoring and control for propulsion, power, climate control, machinery health, and security. Often, these systems are fragmented and need various communication protocols and hardwired signals for integration. The new Emerson marine demo addresses these challenges with redundant edge controllers and industrial panel PCs, ensuring reliable operation even in tough marine conditions.

Emerson’s edge controllers support operational technology (OT) protocols and specialized marine industry protocols, integrating all instruments and subsystems. Information technology (IT) protocols ensure efficient data handling among PCs, supporting historizing, alarming, and visualization. The system includes a self-healing PROFINET ring and redundant IT switches, ensuring continuous communication. The HMI/SCADA solution also meets IEC 62443-3-3 certification for data security.

The marine demo features sample dashboards and displays for various systems like propulsion, power management, valve controls, tank volumes, fire detection, lighting, CCTV, HVAC, and more. Emerson’s industrial automation technologies provide enhanced visualization and data insights, now applied to seagoing vessels. The demo combines proven hardware, software, and networking, offering templates for marine developers to accelerate their designs.
