Embitel automotive software division in Bengaluru, formerly known as the CARIAD Business Unit, has officially rebranded as CARIAD India. This move marks a deeper integration into the global network of CARIAD, the automotive software arm of the Volkswagen Group. With a team of nearly 400 professionals, CARIAD India has been a key player in numerous high-tech projects for CARIAD, focusing on platform software, ADAS/AD, energy and charging systems, vehicle communication technologies, and more.

Since 2020, EmbitelCARIAD Business Unit has collaborated closely with CARIAD on various automotive software initiatives, such as the Scalable Vehicle Compute Platform (SVCP), high-speed communication technologies, and advanced power management systems. The rebranding to CARIAD India under a licensing agreement with Germany-based CARIAD SE signifies the growth and deepening of this strategic partnership.

Sharad Bairathi, Managing Director of Embitel, stated: “Rebranding as CARIAD India is a significant milestone for us. It reflects the strength of our relationship with CARIAD and aligns us more closely with their globally recognized brand, which will be a considerable advantage in India’s competitive tech sector.”

Thomas Günther, Chief Launch Officer at CARIAD, added: “This rebranding brings our Indian colleagues even closer to the CARIAD team. India’s technology ecosystem is at the forefront of innovation, and by working under the CARIAD brand, we are further committed to delivering state-of-the-art automotive software solutions.”

Originally starting with a small team focused on the Driver Reflection Module for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), CARIAD India has expanded significantly. Today, its expertise spans various automotive functions, including the development of software for microcontrollers and the SVCP, which supports a wide range of vehicle functions, from communication interfaces to power management for electric vehicles.

The ADAS/AD division, launched in 2022, focuses on behavior software, sensor integration, map localization, and driving safety, and has become an important hub for CARIAD’s global projects. The Bengaluru facility is an essential partner to CARIAD’s operations in Germany and worldwide.

CARIAD India is also building specialized teams for other critical automotive areas, including energy management, body electronics, and power electronics software. The company is actively working on advanced solutions for diagnostics, security, and bootloader functions, as well as high-voltage energy systems for emerging vehicle platforms.

It is important to note that while Embitel’s CARIAD Business Unit has rebranded, Embitel Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. remains the legal entity and continues to operate as a subsidiary of the diconium group, part of the Volkswagen Group’s Sales IT division. The rebranding reflects a deeper collaboration and strengthened identity within the global automotive technology space.

CARIAD, founded in 2020, is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, providing cutting-edge software for brands like Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. With a global team of over 6,000 experts, CARIAD is at the forefront of developing software for advanced driver assistance systems, infotainment platforms, and vehicle performance. The company’s technology is already featured in iconic electric vehicles such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Audi Q6 e-tron.

Founded in 2006, Embitel has been a leader in digital transformation, offering innovative solutions in automotive, IoT, and connected car technologies. The company supports CARIAD in enhancing digital experiences for customers in the mobility and e-commerce sectors, contributing to the evolution of the connected car ecosystem.
