Electrosteel Castings Ltd is set to begin production of high-performance valve systems in India following its ₹150-crore acquisition of Italy-based TIS Service SpA. The move aims to reduce India’s reliance on imports and boost domestic capabilities in water infrastructure.

With the deal finalized, the company is now focused on streamlining operations and adapting the TIS product portfolio for local production. An official confirmed plans are underway to localize manufacturing in line with the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision.

TIS, now rebranded as TIS – An Electrosteel Enterprise, is known for its expertise in flow control equipment—an area where India still depends heavily on imported products. “TIS brings technological advantages. Currently, valves for the water sector are being imported, but our long-term goal is to manufacture them within the country,” said Sunil Katial, Whole-Time Director and CEO of Electrosteel Castings Ltd.

Electrosteel is considering its upcoming facility in Odisha as a possible manufacturing hub for valves. “We’re committed to the Odisha project. Though land acquisition has taken longer than expected, once resolved, the site could enhance our ductile iron pipe capacity by 0.5 million tonnes,” Mr Katial added. The company’s existing manufacturing units in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal offer a combined capacity of 0.85 million tonnes annually.

Through this acquisition, Electrosteel plans to strengthen its global reach across Europe, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Latin America. The partnership is also expected to open up new business areas such as irrigation, desalination, and renewable energy. “This is a step toward entering broader fluid management markets. We’re aiming for integrated pipeline and valve solutions worldwide,” said Madhav Kejriwal, Whole-Time Director at Electrosteel and President of TIS.

Electrosteel anticipates an annual revenue boost of at least €40 million from the acquisition. However, Katial noted that the domestic market is facing a temporary slowdown due to delays in fund allocations under the Jal Jeevan Mission. “We view this as a short-term issue and expect demand to recover soon,” he said.
