EIL and NPCIL Sign Agreement to Collaborate on Bharat Small Modular Reactor Project

Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) have formalized a strategic collaboration to advance the development of the Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two public sector entities for engineering services related to the conceptual design and development of key structures, systems, and components for the BSMR initiative.

The agreement was signed by the Director (Commercial) of EIL and the Director (Technical) of NPCIL in the presence of EIL Chairperson & Managing Director Vartika Shukla and NPCIL Chairman & Managing Director BC Pathak. The signing ceremony took place at NPCIL’s Mumbai headquarters, with senior leadership from both organizations in attendance.

EIL, which operates under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has extensive experience providing end-to-end project services across a range of industrial domains. NPCIL, functioning under the Department of Atomic Energy, is responsible for building and running nuclear power plants throughout the country.

This agreement strengthens India’s commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure. The BSMR project aligns with the Government of India’s broader strategy to enhance energy security through reliable and low-emission power sources. It also supports the national goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047 as part of the “Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat.”
