Eicher Motors Limited (EML) today revealed key changes in its leadership structure, appointing Siddhartha Lal as the new Executive Chairman, concluding S. Sandilya’s 25-year tenure as Chairman. This shift underscores the significant role Lal has played in transforming Royal Enfield into a dominant global brand within the mid-size motorcycle segment.
Lal, who previously served as the Managing Director and CEO, is widely credited with turning around Royal Enfield, elevating it from a struggling brand to a market leader. In his expanded role, he will now focus on shaping the company’s long-term strategy, brand development, consumer engagement, and technological innovation, while also guiding the next generation of leadership.
Alongside Lal’s appointment, B. Govindarajan has been named the new Managing Director. Govindarajan, a long-time member of the Eicher team, will continue his role as CEO of Royal Enfield. Vinod Aggarwal, who has been with the company for several years, has been appointed Vice Chairman (Non-Executive) and will remain the MD and CEO of VE Commercial Vehicles, EML’s joint venture with Volvo Group.
Additionally, two new independent directors—Ira Gupta, an HR expert with extensive experience in leadership roles at Microsoft India and GlaxoSmithKline, and Arun Vasu, a seasoned entrepreneur from the TTK family business—will join the board. These appointments follow the conclusion of Manvi Sinha’s tenure as an Independent Director on February 12, 2025. In a statement, Lal acknowledged Sandilya’s contributions in turning Eicher Motors into a leading force in India’s commercial vehicle market and supporting Royal Enfield’s transformation into a global icon.
These leadership changes coincide with Eicher Motors’ strong financial performance. For FY ’24, the company recorded a total income of INR 16,536 crores (around USD 2.01 billion), while its joint venture, VECV, reported revenues of INR 21,459 crores (approximately USD 2.58 billion).
