Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India sought an extension on export house certificates, advance licenses, RCMCs, etc. In a video message, EEPC Chairman Ravi Sehgal explained the current issues the export sector is facing.

“Movement of trucks has been restricted. Though some ports are still operating, that is useless because goods cannot be moved without trucks. We cannot have an international business.” Sehgal sums up.

The chairman also commiserated with exporters who have been left in a sticky spot. “They need to operate payrolls and enterprise resource planning to pay their staff. But in this time of restricted movement that has become a challenge”, Sehgal said.

“Even the banks are working with skeletal workforce just keep transaction processes rolling. As the banks are not fully operating, this will affect packing credit and bill negotiations, he added.

However, he assured in the video that the government has been “sensitized with all these factors”.

The EEPC India is in talks with the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State, the Commerce Secretary, and the joint secretary to seek resolution for these issues. EEPC India is also working closely with the DGFT and banks to ensure at least a partial revival of exports.

Besides, EEPC India has also requested the government to treat exports as an essential sector.  Mr. Sehgal has openly asked afflicted entrepreneurs to send the EEPC any issues they wish resolved.
