EDF India announced a strategic partnership with Actis, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure investment, to deploy smart metering infrastructure across India. This joint venture aims to create a dedicated platform company for Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) concessions, underscoring both EDF India’s and Actis’ commitment to investing in the Indian energy sector.

The partnership will leverage the combined expertise of EDF India and Actis in energy solutions and infrastructure investment to enhance India’s power distribution landscape. The Indian government is advancing the National Smart Metering Project under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), with a target to install 250 million smart meters by 2025. These smart meters are designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce technical and commercial losses, and support the financial stability of India’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs).

Federico D’Amico, CEO of EDF India, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to work alongside Actis to accelerate the rollout of smart metering infrastructure in India.” Asanka Rodrigo, Partner at Actis, added, “Smart metering plays a pivotal role in promoting efficient energy use, minimizing losses, and improving billing accuracy for consumers.”

This joint venture supports India’s goal of building a more resilient and efficient power distribution system. By incorporating advanced technology, data analytics, and global best practices, the initiative is set to have a transformative impact on the Indian power sector, benefiting both utilities and consumers.

EDF India, a subsidiary of Électricité de France (EDF), has been a key contributor to India’s energy sector for over 25 years. The company is actively involved in various initiatives, including the development of renewable energy projects, modernization of power distribution networks, and advancement of smart grid technologies. Notably, EDF India is leading the development of the Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant, which, upon completion, will be the world’s largest nuclear power facility, significantly bolstering India’s clean energy capacity.

Actis is a global investor specializing in sustainable infrastructure, with a focus on energy, real estate, and digital infrastructure sectors. Established in 2004 as a spin-off from CDC Group, Actis has expanded its presence across emerging markets, including significant investments in India. In October 2024, Actis was acquired by General Atlantic, enhancing its capacity to drive sustainable investments worldwide.
