Leading global fan and motor manufacturer, ebm-papst, is enhancing its presence in India with the launch of a third production unit. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility in Chennai is scheduled for April 4th, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy across the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APAC & MEA) regions. India plays a crucial role in ebm-papst’s growth trajectory, and this new plant will help meet the rising demand in the region.

Located on a 57,600 m² (14.2-acre) plot, the first phase of the new facility will span 23,000 m² with an investment of €36 million (INR 340 crore). Expected to be completed by the end of 2026, the plant will allow ebm-papst to deliver rapid, flexible service to its local customer base and provide customized solutions. “This investment is a long-term commitment to India,” said Atul Tripathi, Managing Director of ebm-papst India. “By boosting local production, we aim to meet growing demand while creating sustainable employment opportunities. Once operational, the plant will employ around 700 people.”

The new facility will strengthen the company’s supply chain resilience and is a key component of its “Local for Local” strategy. “Through our glocalization approach, we aim to provide tailored solutions to the APAC & MEA regions,” explained Dr Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of ebm-papst Group. “This localization of production ensures that we can quickly and effectively address the needs of our customers in India,” added Thomas Nuernberger, CSO of ebm-papst and CEO Air Technology for APAC & MEA.

As part of its broader expansion in India, ebm-papst also inaugurated a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai in 2023. The state-of-the-art facility, covering 2,800 m², will house 300 specialists focused on developing digital solutions for the company’s fan technologies and global processes, supporting its digital transformation.

Since establishing a presence in India in 1996, ebm-papst has grown significantly, with 4 sales offices, 2 manufacturing plants, and several warehouses. The company employs around 375 people in the country. Headquartered in Mulfingen, Germany, ebm-papst is the world’s leading fan and motor manufacturer. With nearly 14,000 employees across 27 production sites globally, the company generates annual revenues of €2.408 billion and sets benchmarks in industries such as ventilation, HVAC, medical technology, and more.
