Dürr has introduced the EcoMeter SP, a new continuous dosing system designed to apply highly viscous materials without disrupting material flow. This system is particularly effective for large-scale applications requiring substantial quantities of adhesives or sealants. Powered by a screw spindle pump, the EcoMeter SP offers a more compact, lower-maintenance, and cost-effective solution compared to traditional systems.

The EcoMeter SP operates with three screw spindles that ensure a continuous, uninterrupted material feed. The system is driven by an electric servo motor that powers the central spindle, which then drives the other two spindles. Material is stored in a connected supply station, and as the spindles rotate, they push the material into the applicator. Unlike piston dosing systems, which interrupt the application process due to their repetitive piston movement and limited capacity, the EcoMeter SP provides a smooth, endless dosing operation.

Unlimited Capacity and Enhanced Efficiency

One of the key advantages of the EcoMeter SP is its unlimited capacity, making it highly versatile for various processes in automotive manufacturing, such as body-in-white construction, final assembly, and battery production. The system’s design eliminates the reverse piston stroke, reducing cycle times and boosting production capacity. Compared to traditional tandem piston systems, the EcoMeter SP is up to 20 percent lighter and requires less installation space, allowing it to be mounted on smaller robot arms. Additionally, the system’s maintenance is simplified, with just one seal for material feed, and it consumes less energy while being up to 40 percent cheaper than comparable tandem systems.

Versatility for Large-Scale Applications

The EcoMeter SP is not intended to replace Dürr’s existing EcoShotMeter models with piston drives but rather to complement them. While the EcoShotMeter excels in applications requiring high pressure, high volumetric flow, and precision, the EcoMeter SP stands out for its ability to adjust pressure and volumetric flow rate with extreme precision. This makes it ideal for tasks that require consistent output pressure and continuous material flow, such as bonding and sealing panoramic glass roofs or applying sealant to battery boxes and modules.

Dürr’s EcoMeter SP is now available in two configurations: one for direct mounting on the dosing unit and another for mounting the applicator using a hose, allowing it to be decoupled from the dosing unit. The system is also suitable for large-scale industrial bonding applications using both single-component (1C) and two-component (2C) materials.
