Dürr’s 19,000th painting robot is set to be delivered to BYD’s inaugural European manufacturing site in Szeged, Hungary. Outfitted with the high-performance EcoBell3 rotary atomizer, the robot will play a key role in ensuring premium paint quality while advancing environmentally responsible production. This milestone reinforces Dürr’s position as a leading supplier of automated painting systems for the automotive industry.
As one of the first Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers to establish operations in Europe, BYD has chosen Dürr to supply over 120 painting and handling robots for its Hungarian facility. These systems are designed to provide energy-efficient and low-emission paint application, aligning with BYD’s commitment to sustainability in electric vehicle production.
The paint lines at the plant incorporate Dürr’s EcoRP robotic series in both 6-axis and 7-axis configurations. These robots handle both interior and exterior painting tasks, with the 7-axis models assisting in functional operations such as opening vehicle hoods. The 6-axis variants focus on precise exterior coatings. Advanced atomization and environmental control technologies, including the EcoBell3, support fast color changes and consistent finish, while also minimizing energy use and material waste.
To further improve process efficiency, the plant utilizes Dürr’s EcoSupply P piggable paint system, which returns unused paint to the original container, eliminating waste. In addition, specialized feather roller robots have been tailored to remove dust from complex vehicle surfaces, enhancing surface preparation. Backed by a global presence in 33 countries, Dürr offers extensive expertise in localized engineering and regulatory compliance, supporting Chinese automakers like BYD in establishing efficient, high-tech operations abroad.
