Ducati has introduced its latest V2 engine, the lightest twin-cylinder in its lineup, underscoring the brand’s commitment to the iconic 90° V-twin design that has propelled many of its legendary bikes to success. Delivering 120 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 69 lb-ft of torque at 8,250 rpm, this new V2 promises thrilling performance with robust torque across all RPMs and high-revving sportbike capabilities.

Ducati’s dedication to advanced engineering is evident in this new design, which is equipped with innovative features like the IVT (Intake Variable Timing) system for a smoother power curve, an aluminum-lined compact structure for weight savings, and a spring valve timing system introduced on the V4 Granturismo, allowing for reduced maintenance.

With a displacement of 890 cc and weighing just 120 lbs, the new V2 engine is 21.7 lbs lighter than its Superquadro predecessor. It incorporates a modern architecture optimized for both performance and compactness, including a natural balancing system to reduce vibrations without the need for a countershaft. Its slim 90° V configuration allows it to adapt across various Ducati models while delivering balanced power and improved fuel efficiency. For track enthusiasts, an optional racing exhaust setup further boosts performance to 126 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque, along with a 10-lb reduction in weight.

The V2 engine’s advanced variable timing control provides smooth torque delivery at low revs while achieving high output at higher RPMs. This system continuously adjusts the intake valve timing based on engine speed and throttle input, offering over 70% of max torque as early as 3,000 rpm. Ducati also incorporated efficiency-boosting elements like hollow valve stems, a fuel-saving intake bypass circuit, and a water/oil heat exchanger positioned within the V to reduce bulk and enhance the aesthetics of exposed engines.

Designed to elevate rider experience, the V2 integrates Ducati’s latest gearbox advancements, including the Quick Shift (DQS) 2.0 system and a refined 8-disc slipper clutch for smoother braking stability. The new engine will make its debut in Ducati’s upcoming models, to be revealed during the Ducati World Première event on November 5 at 10:00 am PST.
