Driving India’s EV Future: Highlights from SIAM 4th Global Electrification Mobility Summit

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the 4th Global Electrification Mobility Summit (GEMS) in New Delhi, under the theme “Electrification: Powering India’s EV Leap, Reaching the Tipping Point.” Held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, the summit aligned with the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, gathering policymakers, global industry leaders, and experts to shape the future of India’s electric mobility landscape.

The event featured prominent leaders, including Chief Guest Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, and Guests of Honour Sudhendu J. Sinha, Advisor, NITI Aayog, and Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry for Heavy Industries. Discussions centered on advancing EV adoption through policy support, innovative technologies, and global collaboration.

Shri Kumaraswamy emphasized government initiatives like FAME and PLI schemes, highlighting over ₹27,000 crore in investments and 28,500 jobs generated through these efforts. Sinha noted that India has deployed 5.5 million EVs, supported by transformative policies. Dr Qureshi underscored the need for exports, localization, and R&D investments to enhance vehicle quality and affordability.

Shailesh Chandra, SIAM President and Managing Director at Tata Motors, stressed the importance of EVs in reducing fossil fuel dependency. K N Radhakrishnan, CEO of TVS Motor, highlighted India’s potential to become a global leader in two-wheeler EVs through innovation and infrastructure.

Other speakers, including Francois Roudier of OICA and Niranjan Gupta of Hero MotoCorp, discussed emerging trends like software-driven vehicles, raw material challenges, and the growing need for battery-swapping solutions.

The summit featured thematic sessions on India’s EV progress and ecosystem development. Key presentations included insights into global EV strategies, sustainable charging infrastructure, IoT applications, and advanced battery technologies.

Leaders from Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Piaggio Vehicles, and Mercedes-Benz India shared strategies to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and meet customer aspirations for advanced, affordable EVs. The event concluded with a CXO panel discussing critical strategies for achieving India’s electrification goals. Speakers highlighted innovation, infrastructure expansion, and global collaborations as essential drivers for the next phase of India’s EV journey.
