The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has partnered with Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India Ltd to establish a startup incubator in Gujarat aimed at supporting manufacturing-focused startups.

This initiative represents a key step in Johnson Controls-Hitachi’s commitment to fostering innovation and strengthening India’s manufacturing ecosystem. The incubator will provide a platform for startups to focus on key areas like technological advancements, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday by Sumeet Jarangal, Director of DPIIT, and Sanjay Sudhakaran, Managing Director of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India Ltd, India & South Asia Region, with DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjiv present.

Jarangal emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of “design in India, design for the world,” and supports India’s efforts to boost manufacturing through initiatives like Make in India and the production-linked incentive scheme. He noted the importance of fostering innovation by creating an ecosystem where startups can thrive.

The incubator will offer mentorship on critical aspects such as concept-to-prototype development, project viability, and market strategies, and will assist startups with funding, legal services, and intellectual property filing.

Sanjay Sudhakaran highlighted the company’s investment in world-class R&D and manufacturing capabilities in India and expressed optimism that the incubator will help startups bring their innovations to market. Located at the company’s headquarters in Kadi, Gujarat, the incubator will provide startups access to advanced R&D, prototyping, and testing facilities to support product development and commercialization.
