Electronics manufacturing giant Dixon Technologies and Chinese smartphone maker Vivo India have announced a joint venture to manufacture electronic devices, including smartphones. According to a regulatory filing, Dixon will hold a 51% majority stake in the venture, while Vivo India will own the remaining 49%.

The joint venture will focus on original equipment manufacturing (OEM) of smartphones for Vivo in India and may also cater to OEM requirements for other electronic products from different brands. Notably, neither Dixon nor Vivo India will hold any equity in each other’s companies.

“This partnership with Vivo India, a globally recognized brand, brings us immense pride. Vivo’s leadership in the Indian market, combined with our expertise in manufacturing and execution, will create a strong synergy. Together, we aim to further strengthen our position in the Android smartphone ecosystem in India,” said Atul B. Lall, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Dixon Technologies.

Jerome Chen, CEO of Vivo India, added, “The proposed joint venture will complement Vivo India’s current manufacturing capabilities while opening opportunities to expand OEM operations for a variety of electronic products. This collaboration reflects Vivo’s commitment to fostering local manufacturing and supporting India’s growth story.”

The filing did not disclose financial specifics or the timeline for the venture’s operations to begin. However, this collaboration underscores the growing push for local production in India, strengthening both companies’ presence in the rapidly evolving smartphone manufacturing landscape.
