Dixon Technologies and Nokia have announced a partnership to produce fixed broadband devices in India, aiming to meet the country’s growing data consumption needs and increasing demand for 4G and 5G connectivity. The collaboration will enable production of up to 10 million devices per year, according to Dixon’s statement on November 8.
Positioning this initiative as a boost for India’s electronics sector, Dixon Technologies sees the partnership as a way to drive local job creation and economic growth. “This collaboration allows us to bring top-tier devices to market while generating employment and supporting economic development,” said Atul Lall, Dixon’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director.
Dixon’s subsidiary, Dixon Electro, has set up a dedicated facility with the capacity to manufacture up to 10 million devices annually, which will also create around 3,000 new jobs. Commenting on the industry’s rapid evolution, Sandy Motley, Nokia’s VP of Fixed Networks, highlighted India’s growing broadband market.
The venture will produce devices like GPON, 5G Fixed Wireless Access, and Mesh Wi-Fi systems, delivering speeds of up to one gigabit per second. GPON, or Gigabit Passive Optical Network, is a fiber-optic solution for delivering high-speed internet to homes and businesses.
With Nokia’s Chennai R&D Center leading the design and development, and Dixon Electro overseeing manufacturing, the partnership seeks to capture the high-growth potential of India’s broadband market, according to Tarun Chhabra, Nokia India’s Country Head.
