DHL Express has recently unveiled its first automated shipment sorting hub in New Delhi, India. This momentous achievement underscores DHL Express’s trailblazing role in India’s logistics sector, exemplified by the establishment of the country’s inaugural air-side Express Facility in 2003.
DHL Express is a global logistics and courier company headquartered in Bonn, Germany. Founded in 1969, it has grown to become one of the world’s largest and most trusted express delivery services. With a presence in over 220 countries and territories, the company offers a comprehensive range of logistics solutions, including international shipping, express parcel delivery, freight transportation, and supply chain management.
Known for its reliability, speed, and customer service excellence, DHL serves millions of customers worldwide, ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations. DHL’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is reflected in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and implement environmentally friendly practices across its operations.
This groundbreaking initiative facilitated seamless connectivity for Indian businesses with global markets. In 2017, the company further bolstered its air-side operations by launching a new Export Express Terminal, designed to enhance EXIM capacity and streamline processes, particularly in supporting the burgeoning exports trade from North India.
The recent expansion has significantly increased the total capacity of the DHL Express Delhi Gateway, nearly six times greater than its original capacity when it was first established two decades ago. The recently inaugurated shipment sorting hub covers an expansive area of 34,256 square feet and boasts cutting-edge automatic sorting machines capable of handling 2,000 items per hour, resulting in an impressive 30 percent increase in productivity.
With its array of 18 sorting chutes, 11 truck docks, and 8 telescopic conveyors, the facility significantly expedites the processing of incoming shipments, thereby enhancing delivery times for customers. Notably, this hub represents the inaugural use of auto-sort machines for international express processing in India, streamlining operations and enhancing service quality.
Moreover, the hub has achieved LEED gold certification and incorporates sustainable practices, including the use of GreenGuard certified furniture, energy-efficient air conditioning and lighting systems, and the integration of 20 percent recycled materials in its interiors.
John Pearson, the CEO of DHL Express, reiterated the company’s dedication to delivering excellence for Indian businesses, highlighting DHL’s longstanding presence in India and its ongoing investment in expanding logistics infrastructure to meet the changing needs of customers.
R.S. Subramanian, Senior Vice President of South Asia at DHL Express, emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to optimize operations and ensure top-notch express transit times for customers, underscoring DHL’s commitment to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
