Delhivery Ltd., a leading logistics company in India, announced its expansion into the drone manufacturing and services sector. The company has set up a wholly owned subsidiary, Delhivery Robotics India Pvt. Ltd., with a proposed authorised capital of Rs 5 crore. This strategic move marks Delhivery’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to enhance its logistics capabilities.
According to an exchange filing on Friday, Delhivery Robotics India Pvt. Ltd. will focus on four main areas:
Research and Development: The subsidiary will conduct extensive research and development in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, concentrating on various form factors and payloads. The goal is to achieve type certification and eventual commercialization of these technologies.
Drone-as-a-Service: Delhivery will offer drone services for shipment movement and remote sensing, providing a new, efficient method for logistics and data collection.
Drone Pilot Training: The subsidiary will provide training programs for drone pilots, addressing the growing need for skilled operators in the expanding drone industry.
Manufacturing and Sales: Delhivery Robotics will manufacture, produce, and sell drones globally. This will involve third-party manufacturing, procurement of components, and assembly of UAVs.
This initiative follows Delhivery’s strategic acquisition of U.S.-based Transition Robotics Inc. in 2022, ahead of its initial public offering. Transition Robotics, based in California, was focused on developing unmanned aerial system platforms. The acquisition included the transfer of all intellectual property registered in the U.S. to Delhivery, providing a strong foundation for its new venture into drone technology.
Delhivery’s foray into the drone sector is a significant step towards integrating advanced aerial solutions into its logistics operations, aiming to enhance efficiency and service delivery. This move is expected to open new avenues for growth and innovation in the logistics industry, positioning Delhivery at the forefront of technological advancements.
As the demand for faster and more efficient delivery solutions grows, Delhivery’s investment in drone technology is poised to transform its logistics operations, offering cutting-edge solutions for shipment movement and remote sensing applications.
