Data Patterns Ltd, a leading defense technology company based in Chennai, aims to secure orders worth ₹2,000-3,000 crore in the next 18 to 24 months, driven by a robust bidding pipeline, according to Chairman and Managing Director S. Rangarajan. The company currently has an order book of ₹1,281 crore, including negotiated orders. Rangarajan highlighted the company’s strengths in radar systems, electronic warfare, and avionics, with expectations for additional contracts, particularly in airborne radars, following significant development in these areas.
The company is also focused on advancing its electronic warfare products, which are crucial for defense services and development organizations. It is utilizing QIB funds to further develop large-scale products, with the first of these products expected to gain significant interest from the Army, Air Force, and Navy in the coming months.
In its financial results for Q2FY25, Data Patterns reported a 12% decline in net profit, which fell to ₹30 crore from ₹34 crore in the same period last year. Total revenue also dropped by 13% to ₹103 crore, impacted by the deferral of delivery schedules by customers for completed products.
Despite a slower-than-expected order inflow in the first half of the year, the company anticipates a pickup in the second half and is focused on maintaining a growth trajectory while ensuring healthy revenue and profitability. Data Patterns continues to collaborate with major defense PSUs like Hindustan Aeronautics and Bharat Electronics, as well as organizations such as DRDO and ISRO, involved in defense and space research.
Looking ahead, Data Patterns plans to allocate around ₹200 crore for new technology and product development, building on its ₹124 crore spent on capital expenditure over the past five years. The company is focused on advancing fire control radars, X-band radars, and smaller radars for UAVs, aiming to offer cost-effective solutions with in-house intellectual property. Additionally, it is developing electronic warfare products and military radars to meet the growing needs of the Armed Forces.
