Danfoss Fire Safety A/S, part of the global Danfoss Group, successfully presented its state-of-the-art high-pressure water mist technology at the Fire and Security India Expo (FSIE) 2024. The showcased system is designed to provide intelligent and reliable fire protection for buildings, industrial sites, and tunnels, using significantly less water while offering rapid fire suppression. At the heart of Danfoss Fire Safety’s exhibit was the SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system, reflecting the company’s dedication to innovation and sustainability in fire safety.

Mr Ravichandran Purushothaman, President of Danfoss India, emphasized, “Danfoss India is focused on delivering sustainable fire safety solutions that align with India’s evolving safety standards. Our SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system not only optimizes water usage but also ensures that essential facilities like data centers remain operational during fire incidents. We pride ourselves on offering a solution that meets both the aesthetic and functional requirements of modern infrastructure while adhering to the highest compliance standards. Our participation in FSIE 2024 allowed us to engage with industry professionals and advance the growing need for fire safety in India, particularly with the rapid urbanization and infrastructure development.”

A notable implementation of the SEM-SAFE® system is in the Samruddhi Expressway Tunnel in Maharashtra, India. This 8-kilometer, 3-lane tunnel, connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, features advanced fire protection technology from Danfoss, ensuring safe and efficient passage through the Western Ghats mountains.

The system’s ability to suppress fires efficiently is complemented by 26 cross-passages for emergency evacuation and 54 ventilation fans per tube for optimal smoke clearance. This project represents a significant advancement in fire safety technology, providing a secure environment for rapid evacuation during fire emergencies and protecting the tunnel structure.

The SEM-SAFE® system from Danfoss uses up to 80% less water compared to other water-based fire suppression technologies. It is also the only high-pressure water mist system with 68°C rated data center nozzles, which can reduce cooling demands and minimize energy consumption in data centers. Additionally, the ultra-clean pump technology eliminates the risk of oil contamination, as it requires no oil.

Mr  Qusai Alasad, ME & India Regional Manager Global Manager-Transportation Infrastructures at Danfoss Fire Safety, noted, “Water has long been used to fight fires, but water mist represents a significant advancement. It offers superior fire suppression by capturing soot, reducing radiant heat, and quickly lowering temperatures. Our high-pressure water mist system effectively combines the benefits of gas suppression and traditional sprinklers, protecting both people and equipment without the need for additional installations. Our presence at FSIE demonstrates Danfoss’s commitment to bringing innovative fire safety solutions to India.”

Danfoss Fire Safety’s involvement in FSIE 2024 highlights their ongoing efforts to deliver cutting-edge fire protection solutions tailored to the specific needs of the Indian market. The expo provided an opportunity to explore the SEM-SAFE® system and its potential to revolutionize fire safety standards across various applications, from modern skyscrapers to critical infrastructure.
