Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, a subsidiary of global truck manufacturer Daimler Truck AG, has introduced an innovative new lineup of BharatBenz trucks tailored specifically for the construction and mining industries. The launch, which took place at their Oragadam facility near Chennai, showcased the “HX” and “TorqShift” series of trucks, designed to meet the growing demands of these sectors.
The introduction of these trucks comes at a time when the domestic mining and construction equipment market is projected to grow from USD 16 billion to USD 45 billion by 2030. According to Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India, the trucks underwent extensive trials at various construction and mining sites across the country over the last six months. These trials have shown significant improvements in operational efficiency, uptime, and profitability, which have directly led to the decision to move into full-scale production.
Mr Arya highlighted that the new trucks provide a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reduction of 15-20% for customers and are specifically designed to be efficient, intelligent, and reliable. These key attributes are in line with customer expectations in the construction and mining segments, where businesses are increasingly looking for vehicles that deliver superior performance and operational savings.
Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President and CTO of Daimler India, emphasized that the new BharatBenz trucks have been meticulously redesigned to meet the evolving needs of the market. The HX range, which includes the 2828C HX and 3532 HX models, is focused on logistics, offering high durability, productivity, and fuel efficiency. The TorqShift vehicles, on the other hand, are geared towards the mining sector, with models such as the 2832CM and 3532CM providing advanced automated manual transmission (AMT) for smooth performance, improved comfort, and excellent fuel efficiency. Looking ahead, Daimler India is also exploring alternative fuel solutions, with plans for electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles in the pipeline.
