Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Germany’s Daimler Truck AG, has achieved a two- to three-fold increase in spare parts sales through the implementation of an AI-based system. Named Vruddhi, this solution analyzes truck populations, assesses retention rates, and forecasts demand based on vehicle usage patterns.
Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO of DICV, shared with a magazine that Vruddhi’s advanced forecasting capabilities have significantly improved the company’s aftermarket operations, leading to a 20% enhancement in timely parts deliveries. The system’s ability to factor in business seasonality provides precise demand forecasts, allowing DICV to optimize inventory management and identify upsell opportunities.
Arya noted that Vruddhi also helps pinpoint customers who are overdue for service, enabling targeted outreach to increase parts demand. With customer retention post-warranty at around 80%, DICV’s performance contrasts sharply with the commercial vehicle industry average of 30%.
While traditional statistical methods relied on historical data with recent data weighted more heavily, Vruddhi’s AI-driven approach offers a more dynamic and accurate forecasting model. This investment in AI highlights a broader industry shift towards technological solutions to improve operational efficiency and customer service in a competitive market.
