DAEWOO India, the local arm of the South Korean conglomerate, has announced plans to increase its local manufacturing to 70% of its product range, according to HS Bhatia, Managing Director of DAEWOO India. Currently, about 30-35% of its production is sourced locally.
Outlining its ambitious manufacturing plans, DAEWOO India intends to establish production facilities in the North, with potential locations being Noida, Greater Noida, or Maharashtra, while simultaneously exploring land options in the South. This dual-location strategy aims to reduce logistical hurdles and bring the company closer to key markets.
An initial capital expenditure (CAPEX) of ₹300 crore is planned for the first three years, with projections of achieving a turnover exceeding ₹500 crore and breaking even by 2027. Post-2027, additional investments ranging from ₹200 crore to ₹500 crore will be directed towards scaling manufacturing operations, depending on the chosen location and scope. By FY29, the company is targeting a ₹1,000 crore top-line revenue.
Re-entering the Indian market in October 2023, DAEWOO has adopted a “Beyond China” strategy, focusing on consumer electronics to strengthen its regional footprint. The brand plans to diversify its presence in the online space, with discussions underway to list its products on two major e-commerce platforms. Additionally, the company is preparing to launch its official website and is considering opening exclusive brand outlets (EBOs) to enhance customer engagement.
DAEWOO’s current product portfolio includes power electronics, kitchen appliances, and mid-sized home appliances. These offerings are backed by a robust distribution network spanning over 2,000 dealers and distributors across 11 states, ensuring wide market reach and availability.
