The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved 10 capital acquisition proposals on September 3, 2024, totaling Rs 1,44,716 crore. An overwhelming 99% of this investment will be sourced from within India, under the “Buy (Indian)” and “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)” categories.

Key approvals include the procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) for the Indian Army. These advanced Main Battle Tanks will feature superior mobility, multi-layered protection, precision firepower, and real-time situational awareness, enhancing the Army’s tank fleet.

The DAC also approved the acquisition of Air Defence Fire Control Radars for tracking and targeting aerial threats, as well as Forward Repair Teams (Tracked) designed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, for on-the-spot repairs during mechanized operations. These teams will support both mechanized Infantry Battalions and Armoured Regiments.

To boost the Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) capabilities, the DAC greenlit three significant proposals: the procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels for rough weather operations, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels with advanced technology for extended maritime missions. These assets will enhance the ICG’s ability to conduct surveillance, patrolling, search and rescue, and disaster relief operations.

During the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the late ICG Director General Rakesh Pal, who passed away on August 18, 2024. Singh honored DG Pal’s significant contributions to the ICG’s growth and expressed condolences on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The DAC members observed a moment of silence in memory of DG Pal, whose legacy will continue to inspire the Indian Coast Guard.
