Cummins India Limited, a prominent power solutions technology provider, has collaborated with Repos Energy to introduce DATUM (Data Automated Teller Ultimate Machine), an innovative Fuel Management System at CII EXCON 2023, held at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). Repos Energy has emerged as a significant player in fuel logistics, offering door-to-door diesel services nationwide. Repos Energy has achieved remarkable milestones, operating in over 220 cities with more than 1,500 partners and 2,500+ Repos Mobile Petrol Pumps. The collaboration between Cummins and Repos Energy is a commendable strategic move by Cummins to market and distribute the DATUM product range through its expansive distribution network across India.
Customers currently encounter various challenges in managing fuel operations, such as complex procurement processes, fuel pilferage, high dead-mileage operations, and imbalanced diesel inventory. These challenges result in working capital lock-ins, contributing to a higher Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and reduced profitability. DATUM aims to address these challenges by providing a solution that enhances visibility into the downstream diesel value chain, fostering cost and operational efficiency for users.
DATUM relies on sensors and digital technologies to offer real-time updates on fuel inventory and consumption across multiple installations. The smart and certified fuel storage solution facilitates remote monitoring of fuel levels, issues alerts for low fuel levels, and supports 24×7 doorstep delivery of diesel. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also reduces the carbon footprint. The entire process, from fuel ordering to payment and invoicing, is digitized. Customers benefit from reduced fuel procurement costs, improved diesel inventory management, increased asset utilization, and assurance of fuel quality and quantity. DATUM has demonstrated a direct reduction of up to 10% in fuel costs along with a significant improvement in operational uptime.
Vivek Malapati, Vice President, Distribution Business, Cummins India Limited, emphasized the significance of the DATUM launch, stating, “At Cummins, we believe that the path to environmental sustainability involves developing innovative, low to zero-emission solutions for tomorrow while powering the success of our customers through innovation and dependability today. The introduction of the DATUM range in collaboration with Repos marks a significant step in addressing the existing challenges faced by customers in managing fuel operations. Our collaboration with Repos Energy further strengthens our efforts to provide convenience, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness to our customers, helping them to do their bit for environmental sustainability and emission reduction efforts.”
Aditi Bhosale Walunj, Co-Founder of Repos Energy, highlighted the transformative potential of DATUM, stating, “The Cummins and Repos partnership will catalyze a fuel distribution transformation across industries through the innovative solution of DATUM. This tech-enabled tool will enable end consumers to avail fuel delivery at their desired location with just a click on their phone. It will not only improve easy fuel accessibility for consumers but also help in structuring and organizing the fuel delivery industry. DATUM as a solution will improve fuel efficiency by cutting out losses and helping the world move towards a carbon-neutral future. With Cummins onboard, our intent to take this solution across industries and geographies is only bolstered.”
The DATUM range includes different variants based on applications, such as Datum X for stationary genset applications, DATUM Y and DATUM Z with a dispenser for fleet owners of diesel equipment and on-highway vehicles. DATUM’s salient features include reduced procurement costs, zero fuel outages, safe fuel handling, digitalization of diesel operations, compatibility with existing fuel storage systems, automatic refueling with doorstep delivery, end-to-end visibility across the value chain, assurance of the right quantity and quality of fuel through fuel sensors and quality kits.
