CtrlS Datacenters, a leading data-center operator in India, has announced the launch of a 125 MWp captive solar farm, GreenVolt 1, located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. CtrlS is on track to develop over 1GW of renewable energy capacity across India by 2030, with significant investments already underway in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.
The company is focused on reducing carbon emissions and driving the adoption of renewable energy. In line with its $2 billion investment plan, CtrlS is targeting a Net Zero carbon footprint by 2040, with solar energy projects planned across India to support this ambitious goal.
Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder & CEO of CtrlS Datacenters, said, “GreenVolt 1 will power both our existing and future datacenters, setting a new benchmark in the Indian datacenter industry. We’re committed to scaling our DC capacity to over 1GW, and our GreenVolt solar farm is a key step in achieving this goal sustainably.”
“GreenVolt1 marks a significant milestone, with plans to expand GreenVolt projects across India. This is part of our responsible growth strategy, bringing us closer to becoming completely carbon neutral by 2040,” Pinnapureddy added.
The 125 MWp solar farm, located in Nagpur, Maharashtra, will supply clean energy to power 60% of CtrlS’ Mumbai Datacenter Campus. This move not only reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability but also helps businesses hosted at the campus achieve their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by offsetting their carbon footprints.
CtrlS’ solar farm stands out due to its geographic advantage. Unlike most solar farms situated in remote areas, this farm is strategically located along the Mumbai-Kolkata highway, ensuring excellent connectivity. It is built on rare tabletop land, maximizing land use with evenly spaced solar panels for optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
While most solar farms in India rely on P-type panels, CtrlS’ GreenVolt 1 uses advanced N-type panels, which are more efficient, require less land, and produce higher energy output. In the first phase, 1,07,912 solar panels have been installed.
CtrlS aims to build over 1GW of solar capacity by 2030, powering its datacenters with green energy. This will help the company lead the way in enabling AI innovations with cutting-edge technologies and solutions.
Founded in 2007, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd operates 15 datacenters across eight key markets and plans to have over 600 MW of datacenter capacity by 2029. The company is at the forefront of integrating renewable energy into its operations for a sustainable future. CtrlS also plans to expand into international markets, with Thailand being its first entry point into Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
