CRISIL Ratings has assigned ‘A-/Stable’ long-term and ‘A2+’ short-term ratings to the bank facilities of SAEL Industries Limited (SIL), underscoring the company’s strong credit profile and operational stability amid its expanding footprint in India’s renewable energy sector. The rating marks a key milestone for the company as it prepares for its upcoming public offering.
The ratings reflect SIL’s robust business fundamentals, supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) across the majority of its operational portfolio. The company has secured PPAs with state and central utilities for nearly its entire capacity, significantly mitigating offtake risk. These agreements, typically spanning 25 years in both the solar independent power producer (IPP) and agri waste-to-energy (AgWtE) segments, provide long-term revenue visibility and stability.
A substantial portion of SIL’s capacity is backed by high-quality counterparties. Around 70% of its operational capacity and more than 80% of its under-construction portfolio are tied to entities such as the Solar Energy Corporation of India and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, both known for their strong payment track records. This further enhances the company’s financial resilience and reduces counterparty risk.
CRISIL Ratings has highlighted that SIL’s credit profile is expected to remain stable, driven by consistent performance of its operating assets, continued scale-up of its IPP portfolio, and strategic backward integration into solar module manufacturing. The company’s moderate leverage levels and diversified revenue streams also contribute to its overall financial strength.
SAEL Industries Limited operates as a vertically integrated renewable energy platform with a presence across multiple segments, including utility-scale solar IPPs, agri waste-to-energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and solar photovoltaic module manufacturing. The company currently has a solar IPP portfolio of 8.29 GWp (DC), including operational and pipeline assets, along with a solar module manufacturing capacity of 3.63 GW. It also operates 165 MW of AgWtE capacity.
As part of its expansion strategy, SIL is developing a large-scale integrated manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with a planned capacity of 10 GW, comprising 5 GW of solar cells and 5 GW of solar modules. This initiative is expected to strengthen its backward integration capabilities and enhance supply chain efficiencies.
The company’s diversified business model provides resilience against sector-specific risks while supporting long-term growth. Additionally, the consolidated rating approach adopted by CRISIL factors in the strong operational and financial linkages across SIL’s network of more than 30 special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and subsidiaries spanning its various business verticals.
Backed by global investors such as Norfund and US International Development Finance Corporation, SIL is well-positioned to access competitive financing as it continues to scale its operations. The latest rating reinforces investor confidence and supports the company’s ambition to contribute meaningfully to India’s clean energy transition through sustainable and innovative power solutions.
