Covestro India Pvt. Ltd., a leading producer of advanced polymer solutions, has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge production plant at its Ankleshwar site in Gujarat. This facility, the first of its kind in India, underscores Covestro India’s dedication to the “Make in India” campaign by boosting local manufacturing and positioning India as a key player in the global manufacturing landscape.
The new plant will produce a wide range of Desmodur® ultra trimer products, which are used across industries such as automotive, construction, furniture, and consumer electronics. With this new facility, Covestro aims to meet the growing demand for advanced, sustainable solutions in the coatings and adhesives sector throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The first production batch is scheduled for Q4 2024. Desmodur® ultra trimer products are crucial in creating coatings and adhesives that offer superior durability and resistance to environmental factors like UV exposure, chemicals, and physical wear.
“This is a major achievement for our local team and customers across the region. We continue to expand our production capabilities in Asia to maintain our leadership in the aliphatic isocyanates sector and deliver high-quality products to our clients wherever they are,” said Thomas Roemer, Global Head of Covestro’s Coatings and Adhesives Business.
“Our latest investment is aimed at localizing Desmodur® ultra trimer production to align with market needs for low VOC emissions, high-performance, and enhanced efficiency in the coatings and adhesives sector,” added Anand Khot, Head of Coatings and Adhesives APAC at Covestro.
By establishing this facility in India, Covestro strengthens its global supply chain and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative by creating jobs, promoting technology transfer, and contributing to the local economy.
This new plant is Covestro’s fourth dedicated Trimer facility globally, with others located in China, Germany, and the USA. It highlights Covestro’s goal to serve customers wherever they are located. Additionally, the project reinforces Covestro’s focus on sustainability.
The technology selected for the Ankleshwar trimer plant is designed for eco-friendly manufacturing, significantly reducing carbon emissions. This supports the company’s vision of circularity and climate neutrality, aligning with its ambition to make the chemical industry a driving force for a more sustainable world.
