Cosmoserve Space, an emerging space technology startup founded by Dr Chiranjeevi Phanindra, former ISRO scientist and Deputy Project Director of India’s Gaganyaan mission, has successfully secured $3.17 million in a heavily oversubscribed pre-seed round. This funding round ranks among the largest ever for a space tech company at the concept stage. The startup is developing autonomous robotic spacecraft aimed at tackling the growing issue of space debris, a critical threat to satellites, space stations, and future missions.
Leading the investment round was Alan Rutledge, known for backing over 20 unicorn companies, with substantial contributions from AUM Ventures and Shakti VC. Highlighting confidence in Cosmoserve’s vision, Ram Shriram, an early Google investor and longtime board member, has joined as a key backer.
Dr Chiranjeevi Phanindra, Founder and CEO of Cosmoserve Space, shared, “We are excited to collaborate with investors who share our commitment to creating a safer and more sustainable space environment. This capital infusion will fast-track the development of innovative technologies that address the urgent challenge of space debris.” The company also benefits from the support of Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder of Skyroot Aerospace and a leading figure in India’s private space sector, who adds valuable strategic insight.
Investors praised Cosmoserve’s approach to an urgent industry problem. Alan Rutledge commented, “Cosmoserve is bringing bold, creative solutions to a major challenge in space.” Ram Shriram added, “Space exploration drives progress, but debris threatens its future. We are eager to support Cosmoserve as it pioneers efforts to keep space clean and sustainable.”
Chetan Mehta of AUM Ventures said, “With the space economy rapidly expanding and new regulations emerging, we saw strong potential in the founder’s vision from the outset.” With this capital raise, Cosmoserve Space is well-positioned to become a leader in space sustainability, advancing new methods to manage orbital debris and helping preserve space as a safe domain for future exploration.
Cosmoserve Space is a trailblazing startup focused on combating space debris using autonomous robotic spacecraft. Founded by former ISRO scientist Dr Chiranjeevi Phanindra, the company leverages cutting-edge technology and industry expertise to promote sustainable space exploration.
