Coromandel International Embarks on Rs 1000 Crore Phosphoric and Sulphuric Acid Complex Project

Coromandel

Coromandel International has initiated the project for establishing its Phosphoric Acid-Sulphuric Acid complex facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. With a projected investment of Rs 1000 crore, the endeavor is anticipated to be operational within two years.

The proposed facility will boast a 650 ton per day (tpd) Phosphoric Acid unit, engineered with advanced DA-HF (Dihydrate Attack-Hemihydrate Filtration) process technology and an automated DCS system. This development is aimed at bolstering the company’s backward integration capabilities and ensuring consistent supplies of phosphoric acid for its fertilizer manufacturing operations, effectively replacing over 50% of the imported acid requirement at the Kakinada plant.

Additionally, Coromandel International plans to construct an 1800 tpd Sulphuric Acid Plant to cater to the in-house demand for phosphoric acid production, while also harnessing power from waste heat generation.

Phosphoric acid and Sulphuric acid serve as pivotal intermediates in the manufacturing of Phosphatic fertilizers such as DAP and NPKs.

Presently, Coromandel’s fertilizer plants in Visakhapatnam and Ennore are fully integrated with captive Sulphuric and Phosphoric acid facilities. The expansion plan at the Kakinada site is poised to transform it into an integrated complex, aligning with the company’s commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability.

With a capacity of approximately 2 million tons, Coromandel’s Kakinada plant stands as India’s second-largest phosphatic fertilizer facility, contributing significantly to the nation’s NPK fertilizer output, accounting for nearly 15%. Moreover, the plant plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, providing habitat to a diverse array of bird species.

Coromandel International’s ambitious project underscores its dedication to technological advancement, environmental stewardship, and sustainable growth in the fertilizers sector, reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s agricultural landscape.
