Continental has the 3D Vehicle Display with the Touch Function Wins Double Award

Continental is a technology company whose 3D display with a touch function that has been typically developed for the vehicle Centerstack. This was awarded as a ‘Winner’ in the ‘Excellence in Business to Business’ category at the German Innovation award 2020. At the Automotive Brand Contest 2020, for the ‘Future, Mobility, and Parts’ category, the Natural 3D Centerstack Display was the ‘Winner.’

The Natural 3D Centerstack Display is the central part of the human-machine interaction at the cockpit’s center. The Lightfield technology ensures a natural 3D experience in 4K resolution for the benefit of all passengers in the absence of a head tracker camera or special glasses.  Leia, Inc., from Silicon Valley, California is the originator of this technology.

The Lightfield display’s holographic representation has overall eight perspectives of the same object, which changes slightly on the basis of the viewing position. Complicated lighting effects, accentuations, and 3-dimensional highlights ensure secure, comfortable information transmission. The Natural 3D Centerstack Display enables a gestural interaction with protruding elements for the first time to enable not only blind operations but also a novel holographic user experience for passengers and drivers.

The Natural 3D Centerstack Display has a touch control combined with active haptic feedback. It is the foremost 3D vehicle display with these functionalities

Contactless capacitive gestures help to bring about the intuitive operation with protruding holograms. The touch function and the 3D display interact to facilitate the user for distance estimation and response time reduction to unexpected events. An impulse provides a signal for the right selection of the button, which permits a nearly ‘blind’ control. Owing to the 3D presentation and the touch function, the display is a blend of increased operating security, comfort, and much more user-friendliness.

“We are very pleased with the awards for our Natural 3D Centerstack Display. With the innovative Lightfield technology combined with the touch function, we create a natural 3D experience that increases not only the user-friendliness but also the comfort and operating safety for all vehicle occupants,” said Dr. Frank Rabe, head of Human Machine Interface business unit at Continental.
