CONCOR Partners with UltraTech Cement to Launch Rail-Based Bulk Cement Transportation Initiative

Manufacturing news

Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has entered into a strategic partnership with UltraTech Cement Ltd, India’s largest cement producer, to transport bulk cement through specialized tank containers. This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing rail-based freight movement and aligns with the nation’s vision for sustainable and efficient logistics. Under this arrangement, CONCOR will operate dedicated rakes to facilitate the movement of bulk cement across key railway corridors, laying the foundation for a more streamlined and eco-friendly cement distribution network.

The initiative represents India’s first large-scale shift toward rail-based bulk cement logistics, offering a cleaner, more reliable, and cost-effective alternative to traditional road transport. By capitalizing on Indian Railways’ vast connectivity and CONCOR’s expertise in multimodal logistics, the partnership aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, decongest highways, reduce fuel consumption, and significantly lower carbon emissions.

This landmark collaboration sets a new standard for bulk cargo transportation in India and is expected to pave the way for similar sustainable logistics solutions across other industries. The strategic agreement was officially signed on October 7, 2025, in New Delhi, in the presence of KC Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, and Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Managing Director of CONCOR.
