Collins Aerospace, a leading aerospace manufacturer, announced the opening of its new Engineering Development and Test Center (EDTC) at the North Gate campus in Bangalore, with an investment of USD 25 million. Initially, the facility will focus on supporting Collins Aerospace’s avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and control sectors.
In the future, it will be expanded to support all RTX (Raytheon Technologies) business units, enabling a wider range of aerospace and defense applications, according to the company, a subsidiary of NYSE-listed RTX. The new center aims to streamline the development, testing, and certification processes of aerospace components locally, which will accelerate the time-to-market for aerospace technologies.
“This EDTC marks a significant milestone — not only for Collins Aerospace but for India’s aerospace sector. It will create highly skilled job opportunities and support the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This investment brings advanced testing capabilities closer to the engineering and manufacturing processes and underscores India’s strategic importance in the global aerospace supply chain,” said Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Global Engineering & Technology Centers.
The new facility at the North Gate campus is equipped with comprehensive testing infrastructure designed to meet the highest global safety and performance standards for aerospace systems. These tests simulate harsh conditions, including extreme temperatures, high altitudes, vibrations, and electromagnetic interference, ensuring the systems perform reliably under real-world aircraft operating conditions. By conducting these tests locally, Collins Aerospace can more efficiently identify potential design adjustments early in the development process, thereby improving product designs and reducing both time and costs.
“The aerospace industry is advancing rapidly, and this new center allows us to keep pace with that evolution by making testing and certification processes quicker and more efficient,” said Clay Lindwall, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Collins Aerospace.
The opening of the EDTC further solidifies India’s position as a global hub for aerospace innovation and demonstrates Collins Aerospace’s long-term commitment to expanding its presence in the country.
