Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has initiated the construction of a cutting-edge Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) for Cyprus-based Pelagic Wind Services Ltd. The keel for the vessel, named Pelagic Walu, was laid in a ceremony attended by Andre Groenweld, CEO of Pelagic Wind Services, and key CSL officials, including Director (Operations) Sreejith K N and Executive Director (Shipbuilding) Harikrishnan S. Representatives from DNV Classification Society and other stakeholders also participated.
The hybrid-electric CSOV is equipped with a 2800 kWh lithium-ion battery system for improved efficiency and lower emissions. It is also designed to support methanol fuel in the future, aligning with sustainability goals.
Measuring 93 meters in length and 19.5 meters in width, the vessel is based on the Kongsberg UT 5520 MH design, known for superior safety, seakeeping, and reduced fuel usage. It can house up to 120 personnel, including technicians for offshore wind farms, and meets DNV comfort standards.
CSL emphasized that the project highlights its dedication to innovation and sustainable development, reinforcing its reputation as a premier builder of advanced, specialized vessels.
