As millions gather for Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the world’s largest cultural events, Coca-Cola India is driving environmental sustainability through its ‘Maidaan Saaf’ campaign. This initiative, in collaboration with the PHD Rural Development Foundation (PHDRDF) and the Prayagraj Mela Authority (PMA), highlights the importance of clean practices during the event.
Coca-Cola India has contributed to the effort by distributing 21,500 jackets made from recycled PET plastic. These jackets are for sanitation workers, boatmen, and volunteers, ensuring safety, easy identification, and promoting the use of recycled plastic. The distribution includes 10,000 jackets for sanitation workers, 10,000 life jackets for boatmen across 4,000 boats, and 1,500 jackets for waste management volunteers.
In addition, Coca-Cola India has installed 1,000 changing rooms along the river ghats, made from recycled multi-layer plastic waste. These rooms, designed for privacy and ventilation, also feature artwork by renowned Indian artists, turning waste segregation and recycling into an engaging and educational experience.
Saloni Goel, Senior Director of ESG Value Creation at Coca-Cola India, said, “Our goal is to create lasting change by integrating sustainability into large-scale events like Maha Kumbh 2025. The ‘Maidaan Saaf’ campaign demonstrates how innovative solutions can transform waste into valuable resources, encouraging visitors to adopt eco-friendly practices.”
To further promote sustainability, Coca-Cola has set up hydration carts along the ghats with built-in bins for bottle collection, along with Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) at key locations for recycling PET waste. Through the ‘Maidaan Saaf’ campaign, Coca-Cola India is showing how faith and environmental responsibility can coexist, setting a global example of how to make large cultural events more sustainable and eco-conscious.
