Cisco has opened its first manufacturing plant in India, located in Chennai, as part of its long-term investment strategy to enhance production capabilities in the country. This new facility is expected to generate over $1.3 billion annually through both domestic production and exports, and it will create around 1,200 new jobs in Tamil Nadu.
Cisco has partnered with Flex to establish and scale the Chennai facility, which will initially focus on producing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series of routers. The state-of-the-art facility will manufacture a range of Cisco’s top-tier routing and switching products to meet the growing technological demands of both Indian and international markets.
The plant was inaugurated by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with Cisco’s Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins, Daisy Chittilapilly, President of Cisco India and SAARC, and local government officials. This marks a major expansion in it’s global manufacturing presence.
It highlighted its collaboration with Flex, a 25-year partnership, to establish the Chennai site, which will enhance telecom technology and connectivity for citizens both in India and globally. The facility represents the first stage of it’s multi-year investment plan, with further innovations planned for future phases, including the production of advanced printed circuit board components and industrial-grade products designed for harsh environments.
This facility will broaden it’s manufacturing capabilities, allowing the company to serve a wider range of customers and market sectors.
