CEAT, a leading tyre manufacturer in India, has officially launched a new production line for Truck Bus Radial (TBR) tyres at its Chennai manufacturing plant. The new line is projected to produce up to 1,500 tyres per day within the next year. This expansion aims to boost it’s production capabilities and strengthen its presence in global markets.
The new TBR line will complement the plant’s existing operations, which already produce Passenger Car Radial (PCR) and Motorcycle Radial (MCR) tyres. This move is part of CEAT’s broader strategy to meet the growing demand for high-performance tyres in both domestic and international markets, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and digital advancements.
Arnab Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of CEAT, emphasized that the new production line marks a crucial step in the company’s global expansion efforts. He noted that this investment supports CEAT’s mission to offer a wide range of tyres across markets like Europe and the United States while enhancing workplace safety and operational efficiency through smart technology and connected systems.
Jayasankar Kurruppal, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing at CEAT, underscored the technological and safety improvements at the Chennai plant. He highlighted the company’s focus on maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing environment with the help of locally developed equipment.
Situated in Sriperumbudur on a 160-acre site, the Chennai facility is central to CEAT’s global operations. It features cutting-edge automation, real-time data analytics, and connected machinery to ensure top-notch efficiency and quality. The plant has received several safety accolades, including the British Safety Council’s 5-Star Award and the prestigious Sword of Honour.
CEAT is also committed to sustainability at the Chennai facility, with 40% of its energy coming from renewable sources, including a 5 MW solar rooftop installation. The company plans to increase this to 50% by 2025, furthering its goal of reducing its environmental footprint. Additionally, the plant operates as a zero liquid discharge facility, showcasing CEAT’s dedication to sustainability.
