CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, has announced the launch of the latest version of CAS SciFinder®, its leading scientific search and insights platform. This new release integrates cutting-edge AI technology optimized specifically for scientific research, alongside the largest collection of curated global scientific knowledge. The enhanced CAS SciFinder enables R&D professionals to work more efficiently and uncover new opportunities for innovation.
The integration of AI marks the most significant upgrade to CAS’s platform yet. According to Tim Wahlberg, Chief Product Officer at CAS, “Scientific data is highly complex, which makes it difficult for general-purpose AI tools to accurately interpret it. By leveraging the structured data in the CAS Content Collection™ and collaborating with our team of scientists, we’ve developed a science-smart AI that ensures precise, reliable results that researchers can trust.”
One of the key innovations is SearchSense, a suite of AI-driven search features designed to make scientific information more accessible and help researchers find actionable answers quickly. With the new platform, users can submit questions in natural language, and AI-generated summaries highlight the most relevant information, providing clear and trustworthy results. In beta testing, 93% of users reported improved efficiency thanks to the new features. Additionally, the platform personalizes search results based on user activity, further enhancing the experience. For added security, all AI-driven functions operate within a closed system to protect user data.
CAS has also made major strides in retrosynthesis by introducing the first interactive, real-time synthetic planning tool. This breakthrough allows chemists to generate synthetic plans in seconds, cutting down significant wait times. Interactive Retrosynthesis in CAS SciFinder empowers researchers with quick access to real-world data directly in synthetic maps, increasing efficiency and fostering greater creativity in reaction planning. The platform also incorporates AI to improve the accuracy of reaction queries, enhancing search precision within the vast curated collection of chemical reactions.
Recognizing the increasing need for intellectual property (IP) visibility in R&D, CAS SciFinder now includes enhanced IP search features. These additions enable users to easily access patent details and visualizations, providing greater insight into the IP landscape. The new IP Connections tool uses AI to match relevant patents and publications based on user inputs, ensuring more informed decisions and reducing the risk of costly mistakes.
Manuel Guzman, President of CAS, emphasized the importance of staying ahead in scientific discovery: “As the process of discovery evolves, we remain committed to incorporating the latest technologies to deliver the best insights, optimize workflows, and meet the needs of our customers.” These innovations are designed to speed up scientific discoveries, helping deliver life-changing breakthroughs faster.
CAS continues to be a global leader in scientific knowledge management, connecting researchers with the essential data and insights they need to drive innovation and accelerate progress in all phases of the R&D process. With an unrivaled collection of human-curated scientific data, CAS enables professionals worldwide to make confident, well-informed decisions and move from inspiration to innovation more quickly.
