Carborundum Universal (CUMI), part of the Murugappa Group, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Silicon Carbide Products, Inc. (SCP), a US-based company, for an enterprise value of $6.66 million (approximately ₹56 crore). CUMI will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in the US, which will act as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for this acquisition. The transaction is expected to be completed by October 2024.

Sridharan Rangarajan, Managing Director of CUMI, stated, “SCP ended 2023 with $4.2 million in sales and a strong profitability profile. We plan to leverage SCP’s advanced furnace technology and tooling capabilities to serve key sectors in India, such as power, steel, and mining.”

Additionally, CUMI aims to use SCP’s extensive customer base in the Americas to expand its presence in industries such as glass, super alloys, petrochemicals, non-ferrous metals, and heat treatment. The acquisition will also enable CUMI to supply its raw materials to SCP and jointly develop new products and technologies.

Located in Horseheads, New York, SCP specializes in Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide (NBSiC) products, serving industries like power generation, mining, material handling, and petrochemicals. SCP’s President, Joshua Dahlman, and Vice-President, Rick Cleveland, expressed optimism about the deal, highlighting the opportunities for expanded product offerings and market reach through the partnership with CUMI.
