Cytiva has finalised a significant expansion of its Fast Trak center in Bengaluru, increasing the facility’s total footprint to 28,000 square feet. This project represents a doubling of the site’s previous operational capacity, aimed at providing enhanced technical support and process development resources to the biopharmaceutical industry in South Asia.
The expanded facility is designed to serve as a hub for therapy developers to refine manufacturing protocols and train personnel on modern bioprocessing technologies. This development follows a period of increased activity in the regional biotechnology sector, where the demand for specialised infrastructure to support drug development has grown steadily.
The center’s primary function involves offering process development services and hands-on industrial training. With the added space, the facility now houses updated laboratories equipped for both upstream and downstream processing. These resources allow researchers to simulate large-scale production environments, facilitating the optimisation of workflows for vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and other biological medicines.
A core component of the site’s operations is the professional training program. Since its establishment, the center has provided technical education to more than 500 industry professionals and students. The expansion allows for a higher volume of participants, focusing on the practical application of single-use systems and protein purification techniques.
“The increased capacity at the Bengaluru site is intended to provide the local industry with the tools and expertise required to navigate complex manufacturing challenges,” stated Vaggu Raghavendra Goud, General Manager of Cytiva South Asia. “By offering localised access to these resources, we aim to assist developers in moving their projects from the research phase toward clinical production with greater efficiency.”
By providing a centralised location for testing and validation, the facility helps companies reduce the capital risks associated with establishing their own large-scale manufacturing lines prematurely. This collaborative environment is intended to support the growth of the regional biotech ecosystem by addressing both infrastructure needs and the professional skills gap.
The Bengaluru facility operates as part of a worldwide network of technical centers located in major biotechnology hubs, including Sweden, the United States, South Korea, and China. This network enables the transfer of standardised bioprocessing methodologies across borders, ensuring that regional developers can utilise global industry benchmarks.
As biopharmaceutical production becomes more specialised, localised centers like the one in Bengaluru provide a logistical advantage for domestic companies seeking to maintain competitive development timelines.
