Canon, the Japanese leader in imaging and optical technology, sees significant potential for its semiconductor lithography equipment in India. The company is in discussions with manufacturers planning to set up chip fabrication facilities in the country, according to Canon India President and CEO Toshiaki Nomura.
Without naming specific partners, Nomura highlighted India’s growing appeal as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing. “Many chipmakers are exploring India as a production base. We are in talks with these manufacturers to offer our products and services,” he said.
Canon plans to support chipmakers by providing advanced equipment and technological expertise for setting up robust manufacturing facilities in India. “Our technology and products will play a key role in helping build strong semiconductor facilities,” Nomura added.
India is a vital market for Canon, contributing to the company’s double-digit growth, driven by economic expansion, urbanization, and a youthful population. “We are close to achieving double-digit growth in 2024 and remain optimistic about sustaining this momentum in the coming years,” Nomura noted.
While Canon is known for its imaging, printing, and surveillance products, it is expanding into new sectors such as semiconductors, flat-panel displays, and healthcare. The company offers diagnostic imaging solutions, including CT, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound devices. “The healthcare sector has immense potential, and we aim to replicate our success in Japan within the Indian market,” said Nomura.
Additionally, Canon is making strides in the studio solutions space with its ‘NorthStar’ initiative, providing end-to-end advisory, equipment, and support for studio operations. “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’ve successfully closed several projects,” Nomura shared.
Canon is also expanding its reach beyond metro cities, targeting tier II and III markets with the help of local partners. “These emerging cities are growing rapidly, and we are strategically leveraging our partner network to tap into this potential,” he explained.
The company plans to strengthen its presence in key industries such as IT, pharma, BFSI, and government services, while also focusing on its thriving camera segment. With demand driven by weddings, wildlife, fashion, and OTT content creators, Canon continues to invest in its DSLR and mirrorless camera portfolios.
