Brembo, a global leader in advanced braking technologies, and Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems, a leading provider of motorcycle anti-lock braking systems (ABS) in China, have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture focused on manufacturing and supplying motorcycle ABS solutions for the Indian market. The new company, BRSF Active Safety Solutions, will combine the technological expertise and market experience of both organizations to address the growing demand for advanced motorcycle safety systems in India, the world’s largest two-wheeler market.

Under the terms of the agreement, Brembo will hold a 60 percent majority stake in the venture. The company will operate from a dedicated production facility in Chakan, Pune, one of India’s most significant automotive manufacturing hubs. Located adjacent to Brembo’s existing Indian operations, the new facility will support local assembly and supply of ABS products tailored to the needs of Indian motorcycle manufacturers.

The plant will feature highly automated assembly lines designed to deliver high levels of quality, efficiency, and production consistency. Initial operations are expected to create approximately 50 jobs, with workforce expansion planned in line with production growth and increasing localization of the supply chain.

Andrea Paganessi, Motorcycle GBU Chief Operating Officer at Brembo, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the advancement of motorcycle safety standards in India. He noted that local production capabilities, combined with Brembo’s experience in the Indian market, will help accelerate the adoption of advanced braking technologies while meeting evolving customer requirements.

Hill Shan, Founder of Ningbo SAFE Brakes Systems, emphasized the importance of creating a localized manufacturing platform capable of delivering reliable, high-quality products for Indian customers. He added that the collaboration will enable both companies to build an efficient operation that addresses the specific needs of the rapidly growing two-wheeler sector.

The joint venture will initially offer both single-channel and dual-channel ABS solutions, covering a broad spectrum of motorcycle categories. The production platform has also been designed to accommodate future technology upgrades, enabling the introduction of more sophisticated braking and safety systems as market requirements evolve.

India’s motorcycle market, which records annual volumes of up to 25 million vehicles, continues to experience increasing demand for enhanced safety features. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the availability of advanced braking technologies while supporting the broader development of the country’s automotive ecosystem.

Subject to customary regulatory approvals, the venture represents a significant step in strengthening local manufacturing, technology transfer, and supply chain development, while providing original equipment manufacturers with an integrated source for advanced motorcycle braking solutions.
